Why train with us?
Derma-Lase Laser & IPL Training

DTA is run by Mike, Lisa and Jane. Mike Murphy B.Sc., M.Sc. is a physicist, certificated Laser Protection Adviser, published researcher and co-author of The Laser-IPL Guys book series. Both Lisa and Jane have been trained and immersed in lasers and IPLs over the last five years and regularly train new practitioners whilst also treating their own clients. Every course is grounded in the real physics of light–tissue interactions, not just button-pressing.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a qualification to operate a laser or IPL?
Requirements vary across the UK. In Scotland, clinics offering these treatments are regulated by HIS; elsewhere, insurers and local authorities typically expect recognised training such as Core of Knowledge plus device-specific training, and increasingly VTCT Level 4. We'll advise on exactly what applies to you.
What's the difference between a laser and an IPL?
A laser emits a single wavelength of coherent light; an IPL emits a broad spectrum filtered to a range of wavelengths. Both can treat hair and skin conditions, but their physics — and therefore their settings and safety considerations — differ significantly. Our courses cover both.
Do I need a Laser Protection Adviser (LPA)?
Most clinics operating Class 3B/4 lasers or IPLs need access to a certificated LPA for risk assessments, Local Rules and controlled area advice. Mike is a certificated LPA and provides this service to clinics across the UK. He is currently the Chairman of the Association of Laser Safety Professionals.
Is cheap laser eyewear from online marketplaces safe?
Often not. A great deal of eyewear sold online is uncertified, incorrectly rated, or unlawfully supplied for the UK market. Eyewear must be matched to your device's wavelength and output — always check before you buy, or ask us.
How do I book a course?
Email lisa@dermalasetraining.com with the course you're interested in and we'll send dates, prices and joining details.
